15th January - Kat Lendacka Linocut New location: Grange Park Community Centre
About the Tutor Kat is a linocut printmaker living and working in rural Northamptonshire. Her linocuts combine her love of nature, architecture and storytelling. Born and raised in a beautiful old town Litomerice in the Czech Republic, she is inspired by the imagery from her childhood. When she is not working in her home studio, she loves to go on adventures with her two daughters and her beloved Spot, the whippet.
About Linocut Linocut is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum or vinyl is used for a relief surface. You will be using a set of ABIG tools with changeable blades and wooden handles and a type of grey vinyl, Easy Carve, which can be easily bought online. The advantage of this type of vinyl is the contrast between the surface and the carved area. There are many brilliant water based relief inks out there too. There is no smell and absolutely washable with warm water in kitchen sinks! It has never been easier to immerse yourself into linocut printing at home.
About the Workshop In the first part of the workshop you will learn the basics of linocut. You will learn about carving tools, materials and where to buy them. You will learn how to transfer your drawing onto a carving block and how to make various marks with different tools, gain confidence and control. Finally, you will learn how to print your block using water based ink simply using a spoon. You will go home with a selection of greeting cards and prints.
We will work with one colour block and may also add a stamp to add colour.
