10th September - Robin Mason
Landscape in Oils, Focus on Greens
About the Artist
Robin loves to work in either Oil or Pastel, both work in a similar way. His subject matter varies from the coasts of Cornwall and Yorkshire to the network of canals near where he lives in Staffordshire. A recent change of subject has been to flowers and still life.
He is represented by galleries in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Derbyshire and Shropshire. He has also exhibited with The Royal Society of British Artists at The Mall Galleries in London.
About the Workshop
Robin will be running through and demonstrating the painting shown to the right, explaining what appealed to him about the scene, his choice of composition and dealing with a variety of greens achieved only by mixing colours together and not using pre-mixed greens.
This painting was originally painted on an 11"x14" backing board so Robin will probably work to that size for the demo but he will leave it up to the individual whether they want to use canvas or board. Whatever they choose Robin likes to give his surface a thin wash of turpsy raw umber.
Robin will do an hour demo to start with and then let everyone start their painting getting help from Robin when required. If we have time in the afternoon then Robin will be happy to do another demo, perhaps a seascape which people can watch or if they'd rather carry on with their painting then that is OK.
Materials for the Workshop
Robin's palette consists of Titanium White, Cad Yellow, Cad Orange, Cad Red, Crimson Alizarin, Flesh Tint, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Brown Madder, Dioxazine Purple, Viridian hue and Lamp Black. He also uses Glaze Medium by Robersons as a medium to speed up the drying time of the paint.
Your own choice of surface to work with.
Robin will provide the reference photo
